Happy Holiday 2011 Christmas Lunch/Dinner ....

This morning when I woke up I only planed on putting the roast in the slow cooker and ready the salad. Instead I found myself pretty much cooking the entire Christmas dinner at 8:00 o'clock in the morning, I was even running late I wanted to prep at 7:00...anyway.
Below are a few pictures of all the tasty dishes...we ended up eating a little after 3:30...I'm still kind of full.
Hope your day was as good as mine!!

Happy New Year!!

Mr. Hall's Holiday Blues

The holiday tingle has the people wanting to mingle
I cant say that I am in to that sort of fun
Id rather go out and shoot off my big gun
Wrapped presents and eyes full of glee
Damn this holiday season, I really have to pee
So here's to you old saint nick, delivering gifts ever so quick
Jingle bells and Batman smells, I damn near laid an egg
When I found out how much my wife spent at the shopping mall today
Gingerbread houses and gingerbread men couldn't put my lights up in this blistering wind,

so many lights, and yard ornaments.
Can someone please tell me where the feeling in my toes went
Bah hum bug, I'm down with the Scrooge
I know Christmas morning the kids won't let me snooze
Oh well what am I to do, I'm but a lone man having to cut the holiday ham
Donations here, donations there, I have just noticed three more gray hairs
I am grateful for my family I am grateful for my friends
Please oh please can someone wake me when this holiday hallabaloo ends

Just having some fun!!!

Morris~

I love the way the artist painted her flesh, it is very realistic, you can see veins and unevenness in color, the entire statue is eerily life-like.

The Doyle & Debbie Show Oct. 2011

Once again mom and I headed out on another adventure this this time it was to Lincoln Park's Royal George Theatre(Chicago).

My mom scored tickets to a really funny production called The Doyle and Debbie Show. The the two, Bruce Arnston(Doyle Mayfield) and Jenny Littleton (Debbie) were phenomenal, they portrayed two disfunctional country song p erformers. Doyle, is a veteran performer, some what of a has been, with serious father issues. Debbie, is a single mom that's made a few mistakes and is destined for stardom, there's only one problem...Doyle. I burned a few calories I laughed so hard tonight!!

There is also another character by the name of Buddy, played by Matthew Carlton. He opens the show and also plays some accomapning instruments he is definitely a asset to the show eventhough his speaking rolls are few.
The songs were so funny, it was almost as if they were poking fun at some traditional country records, basically a parody on country music and culture. My mom and I could not stop laughing, the small cast kept the audiences attention from beginning to end. The performance was amazing the talent on the stage was mind blowing, they made you really feel like you had been following the trio for years. The vocal range of Doyle's yoddling and Debbie's sensual crooning had the entire audience's attention,
This is my second time seeing a production at the Royal George and I am pleasantly surprised every time. This production took place in the smaller auditorium in the back there are plenty of seats and there is a bar. The atmosphere made you feel like you walked into a small town backwoods bar that had great entertainment, a fun crown and cheap drinks, it was awesome.

The staff at the Royal George is always kind, professional and clean. If you ever get a chance to visit the city of Chicago, come on over to Lincoln Park and catch a set with Doyle & Debbie.
I have to admit I love doing things that I might not ordinarily do, I'm so lucky to have a mom that shares and opens my eyes to so many different things culturally, artistically and worldly.
Thanks mom for such a fun night, we laughed so hard...

oh and the best part...the show is sponsored by MoonPie, which means you get a complementary MoonPie with your ticket, a sweet blast from the past.

The Black Power Mix Tape 1967-1975

So my mom asked me to go see a movie with her, I asked her what it was called and she said "The Black Power Mix Tape." I knew it was playing at a local theater and it was not the type of blockbuster film that would be recognized by the Academy, it's footage is just too "real."
The entire movie was filmed by a Swedish journalist, Goran Hugo. The topic of the film was that a history we [Americans] are all too familiar with and ashamed of. This movie took me back to a time that I will never truly know, a time where sit-in, bus strikes, and civil peace walks were an everyday occurrence. America has had a pretty dark history. There has never truly been equality between any other race and whites, lets just be honest, and this movie reminds us all of how hard ALL people fought for whats right in a time when racial injustices were executed everyday. Hugo was able to put together an unbiased peace of work that started at the steadying of the peace movement lead by Dr. King, to the rise and fall of the black power movement. This movie takes you on a journey through one of many dark and challenging times in black America, a long winding road that has been walked by many, so much fight, so much defeat. I was so proud of the way a fresh set of eyes looked into the real America. I was so enraged at how humans treated one another, yes we have come a long way but there is still so much work that needs to be done.

This movie was so moving my mom was in tears I was surprised to see so many older white Americans in the theater, then my mom reminded me that most if not all of the people in the theater were there. They were there in the 50's, 60's, and 70's, these people lived through this. The theater was pretty packed and every eye was glued to the screen, I was moved, angered, saddened, encourage, and most of all proud to be who I am. I am so glad that I have beautiful skin that most people have to tan to get, I am so happy I have thick and kinky hair. I love my big brown eyes and I love the many shades of my family. No one races history is squeaky clean, humans will never be perfect, I can only hope mankind gets better at getting along this planet is all we've got and the more we fight the more we destroy the only thing we all truly need.

I just cant stop I just cant stop I just can't stop thinking of you
I wish I could pull you out of my mind and forget you forever
I wish I could take back the first day I saw your face
From day one I knew you were bad for me
The sex was too good, it blinded the true chemistry
We don't mix, oil and water, fire and ice
I hate you so much I love you, I love you so much I hate you
I thought you were the one for me I thought you were where my heart wanted to be
I have to tell myself not to care, I have to let you go
You have to let me go, I have to live this is my time'I will  not let you ruin this for me
We had our chance, this is it, there is nothing longer
There's a bitter sweet taste that lingers, eventually no taste will linger

Untitled

He whispered in her ear, she smiled from ear to ear that warm fuzzy feeling was no longer a strange occurrence, it was apart of them now
I love you he would say, a kiss on the cheek and goes away
She watches him get into the taxi, rain began to fall oh that yellow taxi, the dog whimpered as the lightening flickered thunder crashed against the sky
She looked so sad as the taxi drove away, he placed his hand on the glass and never took his eyes off of hers, his heart skipped a beat at the thought of loosing her
A loss of the other, something never wanted by the one another, taxi no longer in site, he was gone, off on his stormy night flight, she sat down and rocked herself to sleep
Dog resting at her feet
